![]() Just back from a fantastic holiday in Christchurch, Dorset. We were caravaning with some friends of our from London. I reckon it must have been, for us, the most consistent week of sun so far this year. We've been really lucky with the weather on hols this year so far... There's a few pics here We had some great days on the beach as well as a variety of attractions for the kids including Splashdown, Ice skating etc and a few days on the beaches. I had some lovely chilled times very early in the morning running along Mudeford Beach - far more exciting than running a round circuit in Hereford! Best of all was the Bournemouth Air Festival - see seperate post below - but you can see what we saw here Add Comment A poor roar on the shore: 24/08/2009
![]() As part of our holidays (mentioned above) we had a great day at the Bournemouth Air Festival. We say some great planes (sounds boring but wasn't) including the old wing walkers (dual winged planes) called the Yakovlevs Aerobatic Team, The Blades Aerobatic Display Team (ex red arrows), and the Eurofighter Typhoon etc. Oneof the main reasons we went to Bournemouth on this day though was to see the Roar on the Shore fireworks display. You can see the pre fireworks display 'big up' here Two hundred thousand people had lined the seafront in Bournemouth for this event on Thursday night. This event had been billed as a record-breaking firework display: “a heart-pounding, roaring, glowing, explosive event like no other — the launch of 110,000 fireworks in 60 seconds or less”. But the Roar on the Shore turned out to be more of a sneeze, an absolute disaster with all spectators left wondering “was that it?” when the event lasted only 6.5 seconds. All 110,000 rockets, which were fired from a barge just off the shore, went off at the same time, creating a spectacular but very brief, explosion. Instead of the rockets shooting into the air one after the other, the metal barge appeared to turn into one giant firework, with flames spreading across the deck. Your can see the video of the patetic display below and read more about the full story here | About the blogger:
Dave started blogging when, as a family, we went to live in India for 3.5 months in '08. You'll find out all about that story by going to our old blog here.
Dave overdid it a bit on the old blog in India with posts going up most days, so since returning to the UK, he has taken a bit of a break but feels now it's time to blog again! (July '09). Blogging is a weird thing and a bit voyeristic at times (!) so why do it? Surely life blogging in the UK will never be as exciting for people as it was in India? Well, the main reason for beginning to blog again is that we are pretty naff at the normal kind of communication! We have a number of good friends that do not live in the UK too and this is just one way we feel we can touch base with them. Feedback is that they are happy (ish) with that too! The final good reason for starting again is that the one person who has hassled me back to blogging is my older brother in China who runs a great blog about his bizzare life in China which you can view here. I guess if I am honest it's him I have in my mind when I blog so, for his sake (as I know he will read it!), if for no one elses...here goes.... Dave ;-) Categories:All ArchivesJanuary 2012 Life mantra:
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away." One of the last notes left behind by Gandhi in 1948, expressing his deepest social thought. |
