![]() Just had a lovely few days away in our caravan. As ever, not without some drama though... We had booked a lovely site in Pembridge (Nr Leominster). We had some friends who said they would be joining us for a few of the days we were there which was nice so caravan set up, awning out, gas and elec on and ready for some chill time. I had a nice couple of Bulmers Ciders in the fridge (my favourite at the moment) and I settled down to relax. After a little while I had a couple of jobs to do (always seems to be the case with caravanning!) so got up to do the jobs and sat back down. picked up my bottle of cider and took a big swig only to feel that something (other than cider) was in my mouth and, without me even thinking about it, had found it's way down my throat. I immediately coughed it up and spat it out. As I did I felt a very sharp scrape in my throat and immediate pain. What I spat out was....a wasp!! Arghh! Within seconds I could feel my throat in pain and swelling up. I struggled to breath a fair bit. Fortunately Sarah had an antihistamine handy (as she is allergic to nuts) so I got one of those down and some ibruprofen. For the next hour or so I really struggled for a good dose of air but was OK. A quick call to the NHS direct line confirmed we had done the right thing and at about 4am that morning I finally felt my throat start to go down. Weird sensation though. Nothing you can do but rely on the tablets for being able to breath. Not nice. Add to this the fact that a fairly major part of the caravan went this trip (transformer) and one of the kids of another family that joined us got shot in the eye with a bow and arrow (by Josh!!) and had to go to hospital (!) and it was quite an eventful week! It was a great week though with the two other families. Loads of kids so it was total chaos - but fun! 2 Comments | About the blogger:
Dave started blogging when, as a family, we went to live in India for 3.5 months in '08. You'll find out all about that story by going to our old blog here.
Dave overdid it a bit on the old blog in India with posts going up most days, so since returning to the UK, he has taken a bit of a break but feels now it's time to blog again! (July '09). Blogging is a weird thing and a bit voyeristic at times (!) so why do it? Surely life blogging in the UK will never be as exciting for people as it was in India? Well, the main reason for beginning to blog again is that we are pretty naff at the normal kind of communication! We have a number of good friends that do not live in the UK too and this is just one way we feel we can touch base with them. Feedback is that they are happy (ish) with that too! The final good reason for starting again is that the one person who has hassled me back to blogging is my older brother in China who runs a great blog about his bizzare life in China which you can view here. I guess if I am honest it's him I have in my mind when I blog so, for his sake (as I know he will read it!), if for no one elses...here goes.... Dave ;-) Categories:All ArchivesJanuary 2012 Life mantra:
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away." One of the last notes left behind by Gandhi in 1948, expressing his deepest social thought. |
